Q&A meme that was started by Stuck in a Book.

The Book I Am Currently Reading
I'm actually reading two books at the moment: Peter Carey's Parrot and Olivier in America and Martin Millar's Curse of the Wolf Girl. Both are favourite authors, and I'm loving both reads.

The Book I Finished Last
Martin Millar's Lonely Werewolf Girl (Curse is its sequel). I don't generally do werewolves any more readily than I do vampires, but I'd made an exception on this one because I love Millar's novels. And I don't regret it, I enjoyed it immensely and plunged straight into the next. That's the joy of coming late to a novel you don't want to put down at the end - the sequel is already out *chuckles*.

The Next Book I Want to Read
I want to get Clare London's 72 Hours next. I read an excerpt here and it hooked me sufficiently that I want the rest!

The Last Book I Bought
That would be the two Martin Millar novels on Kindle, The last paper book I bought was from the charity shop, Barbara Kingsolver's The Lacuna, and I will get around to reading it eventually.

The Last Book I Was Given
It was an eBook Shade gave me, The Balance of Silence. I'm ashamed to say I haven't loaded it onto my Kindle yet... *sheepish*. I am going too - tomorrow!

And just for the heck of it, an extra 'Book' of my own:

The Book I Wish I'd Written
The Harry Potter books. J. K. Rowling is worth something like $1 billion nowadays..... 'nuff said

Time for a few updates on what's going on right now, methinks! Actually, that's not a lot really...

On the job front, my redundancy notice period remains terribly vague, and though I thought I would have finished or at least have a more definite idea by now about when I would actually finish, it could still be any time between now and November, and probably at short notice in the end. I dislike the uncertainty, but although I've been looking for jobs to apply for (and believe me, I am not proud or fussy), there's been nothing so far.

On the home front, the hovel desperately needs more in the way of essential maintenance doing before winter. The leaking guttering and land drainage are the two most important issues at the moment - at least until something else falls off the roof. Ah, the jobs of living in a 200-year-old house! If we can get at least one of the problems tackled before winter comes along and creates more for us, that will be something at least.

Now, about a month ago I posted my intention to try and read some of the books I owe that I've never got around to yet. I forgot to report back but so far I have managed to read Nathaniel's Nutmeg by Giles Milton from my list (I should write a mini-review, shouldn't I? Later!), and added another book as its replacement. So, my current selection at the moment, not in reading order, is:

1. History Play by Rodney Bolt
2. The Pirate Hunter by Richard Zacks
3. Dreamfall by Joan D. Vinge
4. Strange Devices of the Sun and Moon by Lisa Goldstein (currently reading)

I am inspired by nanny_ashtoreth's undertaking to read 25 books by 31 December, 50 in the year, to set myself a small, achievable challenge to ease back into reading regularly again. I used to devour books, both fiction and non-fiction, but once I discovered the interwebs my reading suffered badly (as did my reading sight).

So I'm aiming to finally read some of those unopened books sitting on my shelves. To begin with, I pulled four out of the bookcase nearest to me, and as I finish each one, another will be added to the list in its place.

Not in reading order, my initial selection is:

• History Play by Rodney Bolt
• The Pirate Hunter by Richard Zacks
• Nathaniel's Nutmeg by Giles Milton
• Strange Devices of the Sun and Moon by Lisa Goldstein
