A drabble is a literary form originating from the science fiction fandom of Birmingham University in the 1980s. It is a concise and self-contained story told in exactly 100 words, no more, no less. Drabble contests with a given theme and time limit are popular in fanfiction. Expressing a complete and meaningful story within the strict confines of a limited number of words provides an excellent writing exercise for authors wishing to practise brevity and is harder than you think it’s going to be!
